Melissa Terra is a married; mother of 5 children from ages 10 through 25. Her two eldest children have graduated from High School and her 18 year old daughter is now a senior, an 11 year old in the middle school and her youngest child in 4th grade has a diagnosis of Autism and is being educated successfully in district. Melissa has personal experience on how to successfully bring children from pre-school to graduation, while being an active volunteer in education and her community. Over the years, Melissa has served on several PTO Boards, School Councils, and the Special Needs Advisory Council, known as Somerset PACE. She has also chaired several fundraising committees and was selected to serve on the Kindergarten Grant initiative, Special Education Director Search and the NEASC report at the Regional High School.
In addition to her personal experience, Melissa has an extensive background working professionally in the public and residential school settings and is currently completing her 3 year term as an elected Library Trustee in the Town of Somerset.
Last May 2013, Melissa was a candidate for School Committee, which is now marked as an historic event when she tied with the incumbent in both the election and the recount, which led to the position being appointed for a one year term. Though Melissa was not chosen to be appointed, in which she expected, she announced that day that she would be running again in the May 2014 election!
Melissa is keeping her promise, by returning as a candidate this year, and pledges to be a voice for the people! She will continue to fully support that all children in both general and special education receive a quality education while bringing a balance of fiscal responsibility and accountability.
Her extensive experience in working collaboratively on executive boards, researching information and advocating for what is “right” will make her a great addition to the Massachusetts Republican State Committee.
